First, from A Year of Living Consciously: 365 Daily Inspirations for Creating a Life of Passion and Purpose by Gay Hendricks:
November 22nd: Put your attention on incompletions today. As you go through your day, notice any incidents of leaving things until later that could be done on the spot. Experiment with doing them as soon as you notice them, and notice the effects of these actions on your mind and body.
I like this a lot. Keith has a mantra he uses sometimes: “Do it now.” We have these things that float into our minds (usually the menial tasks that we *could* put off) and something about just DOING THEM clears brain clutter and frees space for more creative brilliance.
And one more from A Year of Living Consciously:
November 23rd: Today, pause at least once in your rounds to take some quiet time. Pull your car under a tree and sit for a few minutes, or get up a few minutes earlier for a morning communion with nature. Notice how your minutes of solitude affect the hours of your day.
Such a good one. Sometimes I’ll show up early to pole, because no one is there, the building is empty (can’t get into the studio yet), and I’ll just sit. No cell phone. No to-do list. No radio. Just sit. Think. Be. Ahhhhhh. I need to do this more.
Remember the sentiment I shared from Abraham-Hicks:
Whatever we want in our lives, whether it is a person or a situation or an object, we want it because we believe that we will feel better in the having or doing or being it. So whatever it is that we do, it is in order to feel better. And it is so wonderful to know that we can feel better even if the reality is not yet there for us to observe.
What can you do to feel better, right now? Even if the external conditions haven’t shown up just yet, what is your method for feeling even slightly better? One of the things that I do (also from Abraham-Hicks) is to do what they call a “rampage of appreciation” on a topic. Just take that one topic and write down all the positive things you can come up with on that topic. If it’s a person with whom you have conflict, listing all the positive things about that person will suddenly make the conflict disappear. I’ve found that person will suddenly start behaving in all the ways that are listed in the positive aspects I’ve noted. Crazy how that happens, but it does!
What can you share, for getting to the “feel better” place?
Hotstuff! Get your homework here! 😀
Those of you who want to explore Jill Kirsh and her color coolness, here’s the POV she wrote for me in 2009. She has a lot of free resources on her website, too. Using color to affect how you’re perceived in auditions is quite ninja!
Finally, remember, y’all, we are LEADERS in this industry. We’re a small but mighty group of people who are helping shift what this business is about, with our every positive choice and collaborative support of one another. That Superman series I promised you:
[after Clark has beaten Brad’s car to the Kent farmhouse by running]
Jonathan Kent: Been showing off a bit, haven’t you, son?
Young Clark Kent: Uh… I didn’t mean to show off, Pa. It’s just that… well, guys like that Brad, I just wanna tear ’em apart… I know I shouldn’t, but…
Jonathan Kent: I know. You can do all these amazing things, and sometimes you think that you will just go bust unless you can tell someone about it.
Young Clark Kent: Yeah!… I mean, every time I get the ball, I can make a touchdown. Every time! Is it showing off for a person to do what he’s capable of? Is a bird showing off when it flies?
Jonathan Kent: No! No, now you listen to me. When you first came to us, we thought that people would come and take you away because if they found out about the things you could do, well that worried us a lot. But then a man gets older and he thinks very differently better, starts to see things very clear. And there’s one thing I do know, son. And that is, you are here for a reason. I don’t know whose reason it is, or whatever the reason… maybe it’s… I don’t know…. but I do know one thing: it’s not to score touchdowns.
Have fun on the field, y’all, but know our work is even bigger than all that. Stay inspired! And keep inspiring one another (and me)! XO
