Hello beautiful people!
Let’s figure out where we live, when it comes to our creative careers.
As you’ve certainly noticed by now I’m a big fan of labeling emotions, feelings, motivations, setpoints. This labeling helps a great deal when it comes to superawesome things like letting yourself off the hook about patterns of thought that may disrupt your journey to the happiest YOU that exists!
“Damn! There goes that thing I do again!” — Label it and move the eff away from it so it loses its hold on you and your forward progress!
Today we’re gonna label from the “What If” and the “What Is” grid. Listen up!
It’s important to notice that it’s not just that “What If” is good or bad or “What Is” is good or bad. In fact, both can trend toward the positive or negative, and you could find yourself at different points on the map, closer in toward the center line or farther out — way out — as far as humanly possible from the other side of the spectrum on any particular issue or even on the same issue at different points in time.
This is all stuff to observe and track ’til you get a fluency for it.
Today’s work: Draw up your own “What If vs. What Is” diagram and label it with the behaviors and tendencies that fill each quadrant. As you experience each emotion or judgment throughout your day, start thinking about whether that lives in “What If” or “What Is” and whether it’s related to business or art at its core. If it’s off the charts, see if you can bring it a bit more toward center — a little closer to “The Zone.” Explore what it is that would make that particular issue easier to balance out and see if you can do more of that brain retraining incrementally.
As with everything we’re experiencing as a part of this course, lean into what serves you, what feels good, what gets you closer to your showbiz and LIFE dreams and lovingly release (without judgment, without kicking yourself for wasted time or energy) what’s not serving you anymore. Be grateful for the awareness that’s allowing you this release. It served you well and is serving you even “weller” by your decision to let it all go.
Ah, it’s a beautiful thing, this growth you’re experiencing!
’til tomorrow… stay ninja!
