Ah… embodied education. How did I get so damn fortunate to spend six years of my life enmeshed in this way of learning how to learn?
Today’s lesson on flow theory is about the ways in which our level of self-care today can support a more consistent state of creative flow, thereby multiplying our output and shutting down our inner critic.
Today’s work: How can you build self-care into your life to increase flow? Don’t think it’s important? What if your ability to be massively creative depends on your willingness to increase your “indulgence” in self-care? Can you get more willing?
The work I need to do for this, is finding a few new self-care things for me. Pedicures used to be a go-to for me, because they were always so relaxing and let me just be. But they don’t really feel that way anymore.
I also need to allow myself to read. Because I haven’t been doing that as much as I love to, but its something I love so much. I have found myself feeling guilty if I’m not reading something that is industry related: screenplays for research, books on the craft of acting or writing. I need to let that go and start giving myself at least an hour of reading time everyday.
Things to ponder, and explore.
Oh GAWD yes, girl! Reclaim that reading for pleasure thing! Fo’ sho’! It’s soooooo important to refill the well! Hoping to see a really great bit of leisure reading in your Instagram feed soon!
I have been allowing myself lots of indulging in self- care while I’ve been away shooting this film.
I, too, have rediscovered reading just for the sake of reading. I have remembered how much I love beautful storytelling.
I have been lucky enough (luck that I have consciously created!) to have a beach at this last location. I have swum in the Black Sea and lounged and read.
I have taken naps- many naps.
I have given myself enough sleep in the night.
And face masks.
All of this makes for a more relaxed me which means when I’m working and in my flow I am much more productive and focused and clear.
Love this stuff!
Ooooh, delicious! All of it.
I am Reclaiming the pleasure.
yessssss
Having just had a look at my current life-pie, self-care is where my pie needs feeding most.
One of my non-negotiables is a footmassage every night before I go to bed. But that is one thing and just before I end a day really.
I know – lots of readers here – when I allow myself to read for leisure for half an hour in the afternoon, it makes me a happier person.
I’m assigning myself the homework of finding two more things that I can incorporate on a daily basis. 🙂
Love this!! ❤
Fabulous! 🙂 Your next-tier self will thank you!
Reading and naps. I need more of both of those. That is all.
Schedule it, sister!
