This is seriously one of my favorite ninja tools out there regarding headshots.
It’s super simple and straightforward. You upload your photo here (or just pop in the URL to an image file hosted on your site if you prefer) and the smart folks at MIT generate a score (out of 1.000) of memorability.
I don’t use this on every photo by any means, but when I was deciding between two shots for a specific promotional use, I uploaded the two and found they were BOTH “very memorable” based on the score of “fine-tuned deep features” according to the MIT smartypants.
So, cool! When you’re picking a shot to represent you at social media or wondering if that headshot your agent loves isn’t getting you in because *maybe* no one is remembering that it’s YOU when they see it, welp, now you can have backup in making a decision about it!
Have fun with this! I look forward to hearing how it goes for you!
looking forward to using this!!!
Yay! Lemmeknow how it goes! Ponton mentioned in the Facebook group that there was an issue with uploading. Eager to know if others have this experience or if working with a URL instead of an upload gets the job done. 🙂 Keep me posted!
I’ve been trying to upload the link, but it’s not working for me. How did others get it to work?
That’s what I was asking, whether analysis via URL (vs. upload) was working. You’ve said “upload the link” which mixes two things — the options are UPLOAD an image *or* pop in a LINK to have them analyze — so which one of those did you try? Or both? I’ll be bummed if this tool is no more! (But I’ll also go deep diving to see if we can find a newer version of the tool, if it *does* turn out it’s no longer functioning at this site.) *fingers crossed*
I just tried it on 9 different headshots (UPLOAD) and it worked for me. I had to convert my pictures from CR2 to JPG.
Yayayayay! I am so glad to know that this WORKS. It’s such a cool tool!
Wow this is freaking awesome! I used browse from my iCloud Drive. I uploaded all of my current headshots and a few ones from my slightly older file out of curiosity. I got all High to highly memorable. The highest score being 0.923. The highly memorable ones I wasn’t expecting to be that high.
I’m wondering though for example, when you submit on breakdowns, I’ve seen how CD’s scroll through the submission thumbnails and I’ve been in panels where the session director points out which headshots “pop” out the most (eyes, facial features, expression) and usually it’s the shots that are more in a close up mode that’s get the attention of the CD’s vs shots where the actor is a bit further back in the frame (maybe more full to half body shots) because they are going through so many, they will be more prone to pick ones where the features are closer up in frame. My highly memorable ones have a lot of expression and pop, but they are half body shots, something I’ve been worried about when I submit for certain roles. Maybe I’m off track here but is this something I can apply to that strategy?
Could you upload a CROPPED version of those same shots and see if the score drops? Because then you know if you’ve got a winner both from a scientific standpoint AND a casting preference standpoint! 🙂 And *that* would be really cool data!
dearest bon and ninjas:
I was stoked to use this and the link above did not work for me.
WAAAA!!!!!
Tried a few variations, and then googled “MIT memorability”
Here’s where I am able to access it: http://memorability.csail.mit.edu/
In going in……
Ooh! Thank you for the alternate link! Excited to learn what it tells you. 🙂
This is fun! I tried it on the 3 headshots that I use the most and the one that scored highest is the one I use the least. Something to think about…
Amazing! Uploaded all the headshots I had done after doing all my intensive branding type work. Nailed my brand in the images and then the software here gave me a ranking from .848 – .962 for my top ranked headshots post surveys.
Whoa!! The magic comes around in one full circle.
How VERY cool!
didn’t work for me
Hey hon. Did you read the comments above and try some of the file conversion tactics? *fingers crossed*
Unfortunately, I don’t think this site works any longer. I tried uploading several photos and it just said “Uploading” for like an hour. 🙁
Oh, boo! 🙁
